Painting Weathered Wood
Now for the fun part.
Painting weathered wood. Just paint it to make it look as if you did. A few layers of imperfect paint can give us a similar look. Weathering on exterior cladding occurs quickly but can be easily fixed with a high quality paint job. It is just so ridiculously easy to achieve that painted weathered wood look that so many are after.
You don t have to find or use old pallet wood. I m a firm believer in using what you have on hand and never letting paint go to waste so i grabbed some brown paint i had sitting around sadly with no name and watered it down pretty good so that it was easy to wipe and blend. Weathering occurs when a house with a wooden exterior is left exposed to the elements for too long where the original wood wears down and trapped moisture causes boards to rot. Making it look like weathered wood because there are few things better in this world than that.
It has lots of texture and different shades. Real weathered wood is not uniform. You want to dry brush a light coat of dark brown over the tan. You don t have to sit your wood outside for weeks or months to weather it.
Prepare the surface with old buildings such as my 130 year old barn water blasting the loose paint is not a recommended practice. Sometimes a home is this way because it s been years since the last paint job. Before weathered wood can be painted it will require extensive prep work to ensure that the paint stays on for more than just a couple of years.
